In just a few short weeks, Gabby Gakindi has made a strong start as a Sales Associate to Kosma Comino.

His passion for real estate began back in high school during a casual chat with a friend—an early sign of the drive that continues to fuel his journey today. After spending just one day shadowing Kosma, Gabby knew this was the team and career path for him. With natural enthusiasm, a strong work ethic, and a genuine desire to grow, he’s already laying the groundwork for a standout career in sales.

Gabby brings a client-first mindset to every interaction and thrives on meaningful conversations. Backed by experience in door-to-door sales, he understands the value of persistence, connection, and trust. This month, we sat down with Gabby to find out more about what makes him tick.

What made you originally choose to work at LJ Hooker Property Partners?

When I was in year 12, I was sitting in my engineering class with a friend having a conversation about what I wanted to do with my life after high school. At that time, I don’t know why, but I knew I wanted to be in real estate. I had already done some work experience with a different agency and my mind was set on property sales. My friend, Tom, mentioned that he had a cousin that’s killing it in the industry, and he said he would get me an opportunity with him. Tom contacted Nina (Kosma Comino’s wife), and she gave me his number, so later that day I gave him a call and asked for an opportunity to just come in and watch him in action. Kos was so willing to help me out and he set it up promptly. That first day I got to really experience how it felt to be a part of the team at LJ Hooker and after that day of shadowing, I knew I wanted to work here.

What do you enjoy most about working at LJ Hooker Property Partners?

I love the fact that there is never a dull moment. Though the process remains the same day in day out, every individual interaction with a potential seller is always different. I also love the fact that I can always see opportunities for improvement which makes me feel like there’s so much more room to grow and you can never stop getting better.

What’s it like working in the Kosma Comino team?

Working for Kos is amazing because he allows you to fail, and he gives you enough room to figure things out on your own. He does not spoon feed you the answers and hold your hand through everything, rather he watches from a distance and intercedes whenever he feels like he needs to because he understands that you can’t give a man a fish, but he has to learn to catch a fish himself and that works perfectly for someone like me.

What do you feel is the difference you offer to clients?

Any client that works with me can always expect at least one thing: I’m 100% laser focused on putting them in the best position to achieve what they want out of the sale of their home. I’m not just an agent; I’m the person that they are trusting with their most valuable asset which they are selling for the purpose of elevating their life. My sole purpose as an agent is to make sure that process goes as smooth as possible for the seller. My biggest advantage as a young agent is time and energy – what I lack in experience, I absolutely make up for in effort whereas an experienced agent might not be able to put the same amount of effort into just one client.

What are your favourite things about the areas you service?

For me it’s the people – everyone in Wishart is so nice and they are more than willing to have a conversation, even if it’s not about real estate. As you get to know me more, you’ll know I love a good conversation so anytime someone is willing to sit down with me and just connect I’m always happy.

How have you utilised your previous career history, skills and knowledge in your current role?

In my previous role as a door-to-door salesman, I learnt that rejection is not something to be taken personally because sales is just a numbers game at the end of the day – the more contact you make, the more listings you get, and the fact that I’ve experienced that first-hand gives me the confidence to say that I will be successful in this industry.

What are some major things you have learnt since starting work here?

I’ve learnt the importance of relatability and empathy. We are in the business of working with people so it’s imperative that we make an effort to understand people and in particular what they value and what they wish to get out of working with you, and as an agent its my job to make whatever they value, what I value as well, so we can work towards the same goal.

What have been your main achievements since working here?

My biggest achievement was getting my first lead which eventually turned into a sale. The fact that I made all those calls, and I finally found someone that was looking to sell was what motivated me so much to keep going day in, day out.

What are your goals for the future?

For now, I’m just focused on learning the art of sales and expanding my knowledge on property in general, so I can be of the most use to my team, but in the long run my goal is to get my own area which I can dominate and create a brand for myself within that area.

What advice do you have for others wanting to pursue a career in real estate/sales?

Just expect a tough and sometimes confusing journey – anything that’s worth anything is hard to attain, and greatness isn’t achieved overnight. Don’t look at the top agents and expect to get there quickly. Just know that they were in the same position as you and it took mental warfare to keep climbing up the ladder and not give up until they got to where they wanted to be.
